When I Lay My Burden Down tells the personal struggles
of five African American composers born in the late 1800s
to early 1900s.

Democratic Republic of Congo, bar owner
Mama Nadi’s establishment has simple rules—no arguments,
no politics, no guns. But as tales of atrocities spread and
tensions between rebels and government militia rise, Mama
is forced to reassess her business priorities and personal
loyalties. In this 2009 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, the
realities of life in civil war provide the ultimate test of
the human spirit.

Buick Automotive Gallery, Longway Planetarium, and
Sloan Museum through February 29, and donated to
the North End Food Kitchen.
African American storytellers will be located at Sloan Museum throughout
the month of February.
