Marketing & Facilities Rental Manager
Department: Marketing Reports To: Director of Sloan*Longway Job Description: Actively works in and oversees the Marketing Department, coordinates and leads research, development and implementation of marketing and public relations plans for Sloan Museum, Longway Planetarium and Buick Automotive Gallery. Works closely with all organization staff to ensure brand identity and a quality guest experience. Responsibilities Include: Responsible for department staff recruitment, selection and management of full time staff, part time staff, interns and volunteers. Oversees the development of the annual marketing and membership plans / budgets and implements marketing, membership and public relations strategies for Sloan Museum & Longway Planetarium. Leads team effort to maintain strong links with the media, locally, regionally and statewide to achieve high visibility for the organization and their programs. Provides leadership, creative and administrative oversight in areas of electronic marketing, website design, new and alternative media initiatives, market research, image awareness and brand building, implementation of visitor and non-visitor studies. Oversees the development and implementation of shared media buys, trade agreements and special media partnerships for both institutions. Coordinate efforts with Flint Cultural Center Corporation (FCCC) marketing team and other institutions. Oversees publication of all museum and planetarium media, including newsletters, educational guides and other special publications. Provides program oversight and comprehensive marketing support to the institutions for the development/maintenance of a growing Membership program. Provides oversight to the Facilities Rental & Membership activities ensuring continued development and maintenance of the these programs. Maintains and expands relations with the visitor’s and convention bureaus in order to maximize exposure to the group and tourism markets. Maintains and expands relations with Chambers of Commerce, local government and other major entities that are an integral part of the community. Serves as a member of the FCC campus-wide Marketing committee. Qualifications/Skills Required: 1. Able to exercise independent judgment, be self-directed and highly motivated, with excellent organization and project management skills. 2. Strong leadership skills; demonstrated ability to act as motivational and collegial supervisor. 3. Strong presenter; excellent written and verbal communication skills. 4. Proven experience in working with the principles and practices of marketing, media buying and print, public relations, promotion and audio-visual production. 5. Proven experience in working with electronic marketing and social media initiatives. 6. Demonstrated knowledge of market /audience research, data sources and research tools. 7. Excellent understanding of principles and practices related to providing high quality customer service. 8. Team builder able to build and maintain morale and work effectively with others, both internal and external, with tact, courtesy and diplomacy. 9. Willingness to work flexible schedule. 10. Experience with budget development and management. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Minimum of B.A. in marketing, communications or related field required and 2 - 5 years of related experience. MBA in marketing or communications preferred.
